Floods

Flood Relief and Emergency Response

Every year, Assam is severely impacted by catastrophic floods that sweep across its towns and villages, leaving behind widespread devastation. Entire communities are submerged, homes destroyed, livestock lost, and families left stranded. The humanitarian crisis that follows is marked by acute shortages of food, clean water, and basic necessities, placing the lives and dignity of countless people at grave risk.

In such times, hunger becomes the most immediate concern, followed closely by the outbreak of waterborne diseases due to contaminated floodwaters and decomposing animal carcasses. Responding to this urgent need, Priyobondhu has been consistently delivering life saving relief across flood affected regions of Assam since its inception.

Our relief operations are swift, compassionate, and tailored to the specific needs of vulnerable groups. We prepare and distribute special emergency kits to address the nutritional and hygiene needs of pregnant women, infants, and adolescent girls.

COVID-19 Response: Combating Hunger and Spreading Awareness

"Can’t sit back- I do feel my responsibility. We are at war against an invisible enemy. The situation of food security is very grim and needs serious attention. We are on the ground and can see the plight of the daily wage labourers."
- Archana Borthakur, 2020

In response to the unprecedented crisis brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, Priyobondhu launched an immediate humanitarian response to address the severe food insecurity faced by daily wage earners and vulnerable families. The nationwide lockdown, while necessary, left countless individuals without a source of income, triggering an acute hunger crisis across marginalized communities.

Understanding the gravity of the situation, our team provided essential groceries, dry rations, and hygiene supplies to hundreds of affected families. Alongside food distribution, we carried out awareness campaigns on COVID-19 prevention, including hygiene practices, social distancing, and the use of face coverings.

Our effort was not only about feeding the hungry it was about standing in solidarity with those most affected and ensuring they were not left behind in a time of global uncertainty.
