Rescue and Comprehensive Support for Tripti Roy and Her Family-
On July 7, 2017, Tripti Roy, a 56-year-old woman from Nizarapar, Kahilipara, Guwahati, suffering from paralysis in the lower limbs and severe open wounds, was rescued by Priyobondhu. Her critical condition, compounded by the dire circumstances of her impoverished family, necessitated immediate intervention and care.
Tripti’s family consisted of five members, including three differently abled children, making their situation exceptionally challenging. The family’s sole breadwinner, Tripti’s husband, had been the primary provider, but he too had been suffering from persistent back pain, further deepening their financial struggles.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Priyobondhu swiftly mobilized resources to provide medical and social support. Tripti was admitted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital, where all medical expenses and services, including her necessary surgeries, were promptly covered. Over the course of her treatment, she underwent three surgeries to address her medical issues, with the organization ensuring her comprehensive care.
In parallel to Tripti’s treatment, Priyobondhu took the crucial step of arranging for her three differently abled children to be placed in Destination Home, a dedicated facility for special needs children. This placement ensured that the children received the specialized care and attention they required, offering them a safe and supportive environment.
After months of treatment and recovery, Tripti was discharged from the hospital on November 20, 2017, having made remarkable progress. Priyobondhu’s intervention not only provided her with the medical care she urgently needed but also gave her children a better future, offering them opportunities for growth and well being.
This case stands as a testament to Priyobondhu’s unwavering commitment to supporting marginalized families, facilitating access to life-saving healthcare, and improving the quality of life for individuals in distress. On January 10, 2018, a new chapter was written for Pukarkata LP School in Lahorighat, Morigaon, with the grand inauguration of its newly reconstructed building. The ceremony was graced by distinguished guests including Shri Hemen Das, Deputy Commissioner of Morigaon, Shri Swapnaneel Deka, Superintendent of Police, Morigaon, Smt. Dyotiva Bora, Circle Officer of Morigaon, and Shri Akbar Ali, Officer in Charge of Bhuragaon, Morigaon.
This moment marked the culmination of years of struggle and perseverance. Pukarkata LP School, established in 1982, had been enduring severe infrastructural deficiencies for decades. The once makeshift building, with bamboo poles as walls, a rusted roof, and minimal desks and benches, had become a symbol of the dire educational challenges faced by rural schools in India. Exposure to harsh weather conditions be it scorching sun, heavy rains, or strong winds had made regular school sessions almost impossible, resulting in frequent disruptions.
Priyobondhu, driven by a commitment to empower rural education, joined hands with London based NRIs, who generously funded the project to reconstruct the school. On December 16, 2017, construction work commenced with a clear vision- a two room structure, concrete flooring, side walls (half), a corrugated roof, and the provision of basic school supplies including desks, benches, and blackboards.
The newly constructed facility offers a proper and conducive environment for the children of Pukarkata. With the launch of the new academic session, 40 students began their education in a safe, well equipped, and welcoming space.
This initiative not only addresses the immediate infrastructural challenges but also highlights the critical role of quality education, health, and livelihood in empowering rural communities. The inauguration of Pukarkata LP School is a beacon of hope for the future of these children, ensuring that they are equipped with the tools they need to succeed and build a brighter tomorrow.
This effort, led by Priyobondhu, underscores the organization’s commitment to improving access to education in underprivileged rural areas, where such basic necessities are often a luxury.

Every day, countless families face the harsh reality of struggling to put food on the table, often leaving little to no resources for essential school supplies for their children. For these families, education is pushed to the backseat, overshadowed by more immediate survival needs. To bridge this gap and ensure that no child is held back due to the unavailability of school supplies, we have launched the ‘School Kit for a Child’ initiative.
This program is dedicated to providing children with a comprehensive school kit, which includes school bags, notebooks, pencils, and other vital essentials for a successful academic year. Our objective is simple yet profound to empower children to attend school with pride, fostering self worth and self confidence. We want every child to walk into their classroom with the supplies they need, ready to learn and grow, without the burden of lacking basic tools.
The program targets families who, despite their best efforts, cannot afford to provide their children with the necessary educational resources. The journey of this initiative began at JSVN School, located in Paschim Killing, Khetri, and aims to reach out to many more communities, ensuring that education becomes an accessible reality for every child, regardless of their family’s financial situation.

As the vibrant spirit of 'Durgotsav' sweeps across the land, echoing with the sounds of devotion and joy, Priyobondhu once again embraced the true essence of the festival- compassion, community, and celebration.
In keeping with our annual tradition, we brought moments of happiness and dignity to 120 underprivileged children in Khetri by gifting them brand new clothes. For many of these children, this simple gesture was more than just fabric and color, it was a rare moment of inclusion, of being seen and valued, of being part of the festive cheer that they often witness from the margins.
The gleam in their eyes, the unrestrained smiles, and the laughter that filled the air were testaments to the powerful impact of collective goodwill. Each garment carried with it the warmth of empathy and the hope of a brighter, more equal tomorrow.
We extend our deepest gratitude to every generous heart who contributed to this initiative. Your kindness not only adorned these children in festive attire but also wrapped them in the immeasurable gift of joy.

A Taste of Tradition- Celebrating Assam’s Culinary Heritage
Assam’s culinary landscape is as rich and diverse as its cultural fabric. It is a blend of age old customs, fresh ingredients from fertile lands, and recipes passed down through generations. From earthy flavors to healthful simplicity, Assamese cuisine tells the story of a community deeply rooted in tradition and nature. In a vibrant effort to honor and uplift this gastronomic legacy, the Priyobondhu Social Welfare Society hosted the All Assam Assamese Traditional Food Competition 2025 on February 8th and 9th at Geetanagar High School Playground, Guwahati. A significant milestone of Archana Borthakur Educational Trust and sister concern of PriyoBondhu in integrating a slum child
Rajdeep’s admission into Class 8
marks the first step in mainstreaming a bright young soul.
In a moving moment that underscores both the harsh realities and the shining hopes of underprivileged children, Rajdeep, a bright and talented student from a slum based informal school run by Archana Borthakur Educational Trust a sister concern of PriyoBondhu, has been admitted to Guwahati Refinery Higher Secondary School; one of Assam’s most respected educational institutions.
While this marks a major milestone in Rajdeep’s academic journey, it is also a moment filled with bittersweet emotions for those who have nurtured and witnessed his transformation firsthand.
Rajdeep’s story began six years ago when he first stepped into the school, a fragile child clutching the corner of a worn out shawl, accompanied by his little niece, Rani. Born into a household torn by poverty and substance abuse, Rajdeep’s early years were marred by instability. His mother, at one point lost to severe addiction, was brought back from the brink through a month and a half long rehabilitation effort at GMCH, facilitated by the school’s volunteers.
His father, struggling with his own battles, offered little emotional or financial support. In this challenging environment, it was school that became a sanctuary for both Rajdeep and Rani, a place where they could study, sing, dance, and simply be children.
Rajdeep’s growth over the years has been remarkable. Despite grappling with anger and emotional turmoil in his adolescent years, and even taking up work at a garage to support his family, he remained deeply connected to the school. The PriyoBondhu team never gave up on him and repeatedly bringing him back to the fold and even employing his mother as a helper at the school to ensure continued education for both children.
Rani’s educational journey has also been uplifted by the Sponsor A Child initiative, especially through the unwavering support of Dipanjali Talukdar baideu, who stood by her through thick and thin.
The school itself operates from a modest, rented space, far from ideal, but filled with determination, care, and dreams. With limited resources and growing numbers, the dream of a permanent school building still lingers on the horizon.
Rajdeep’s admission to Guwahati Refinery Higher Secondary School under Archana Borthakur Educational Trust and PriyoBondhu’s guardianship is not just a personal victory but a powerful reminder of what hope, perseverance, and community support can achieve. The school community extends heartfelt gratitude to the institution and especially to its Principal, Minakshi Baideu, for embracing Rajdeep with such warmth and sincerity.
As Rajdeep steps into a new chapter, his absence will be deeply felt by his former classmates and mentors. But his journey forward fuels the vision of Archana Borthakur Educational Trust and PriyoBondhu- a vision where children like him not only survive but flourish.
