Whispers of Dignity- Let us Talk

Let us Talk

Menstrual Health and Hygiene Initiative

Redefining Menstrual Health with Dignity and Dialogue

Menstruation is one of the most natural biological processes, marking the transition from girlhood to womanhood, yet it remains cloaked in stigma, silence, and misinformation. For generations, the topic has been whispered behind closed doors, if spoken of at all. It is time to break this silence. It is time to say- Let Us Talk. At Priyobondhu, we recognize menstrual health as a critical component of women's health and human dignity, and advocate for its prioritization in public discourse and development agendas.

Our initiative underscores the urgent need for unhindered access to safe, affordable, and hygienic menstrual absorbents, particularly for economically disadvantaged and socially marginalized communities. Moreover, adolescent girls especially those attending school must be provided with dedicated, private, and hygienic sanitation facilities equipped with clean water and soap to support effective menstrual management.

Equally essential is the provision of sustainable infrastructure for the safe disposal of menstrual waste, coupled with education on the proper use and handling of menstrual products. These are not mere conveniences, they are imperatives for preserving health, ensuring school attendance, and safeguarding the dignity of girls and women.

The core aims of the program are as follows-

  1. To introduce age appropriate, pre-menarcheal education that equips young girls with an informed understanding of menstruation as a natural physiological process.

  2. To disseminate knowledge on hygienic menstrual practices among adolescent girls and women, thereby reducing vulnerability to infections and reproductive health complications.

  3. To normalize menstrual discourse by eradicating deep seated taboos and promoting open, shame-free conversations within families, schools, and communities.

  4. To ensure equitable access to menstrual absorbents, clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure for those most at risk of exclusion.

  5. To implement ecologically responsible disposal solutions that address the environmental impact of menstrual waste, while maintaining privacy and dignity.

Through this multi faceted intervention, Priyobondhu aims not only to improve menstrual hygiene but also to champion gender equality, bodily autonomy, and the right to health and education. By empowering girls and women to manage menstruation safely and confidently, we foster environments where they are no longer held back by biology, but propelled forward by knowledge, opportunity, and support.

Let us make menstruation a conversation, not a taboo.
